From first idea to the real thing
The need for EcoMotion:
We could see a strong need for a vehicle that was also a long-range mobile power supply. So in 2003 we began to investigate advanced, future-proof ways to meet this need. Feedback from GMR’s customers convinced us of the need for high output and a long range.
From first idea to the real thing
We initially decided to start with the latest GMR electric trucks comprising a robust, modular-based chassis, soundless gears on both back wheels, servo steering and hydraulic tip that can be turned and tilted to both sides. To increase driving time and range the truck was developed with eco-friendly fuel cells that silently convert fuel to electricity. The fuel we chose was methanol, which is much easier to handle than the hydrogen used by the first GMR trucks with fuel cells. The fuel cells function as “range extenders” and are integrated in the vehicle’s seat box, which is where the methanol tank is also located.
The completed prototype
The result is a prototype of an electric vehicle that meets all customer specifications: flexible, eco-friendly, economic and with the capacity for heavy operations without battery limitations. The driving time on intensive operation can be increased from typically three hours up to three days, depending on the configuration.
GMR-maskiner and all others involved are proud to present the first EcoMotion truck at Aalborg Zoo on 9 June (see press release
